PACESETTER

ACHIEVING PERSONAL SUCCESS IN YOUR LIFE

PART 2

PACESETTER – your guide to personal success

In Part 1, I wrote what personal success is all about. To achieve personal success you
need to put to practice the following tools encompassed in the word: PACESETTER

PERCEPTION & PASSION

Perception basically means the way we see things and passion is how we respond to the
things that we see effectively. Our perception of life makes us what we are and who we
are. If your perception is negative than you will surely be dispassionate in what you are
doing and you will create a negative image of yourself. Then you will notice that the
things that you engage in does not turn out the way you want. Our physical body is
intricately entwined to our mental state. A feeling of euphoria will make us think
positively whereas a feeling of dread will make us feel down. Try to imagine yourself as
a successful person. Begin everyday with a positive thought. Listen to uplifting music
when you wake up in the morning. Before you go to bed, try to clear the cluttered
thoughts in your head and write down a list of things that you would like to do the
following day. You will notice that this simple act will change your perception of things.
Writing down your deepest feeling and the goals that you wish to achieve is a sure fire
way of achieving personal success as you are synchronizing your physical self with your
mental state. Most importantly be passionate about what you perceive. Passion in what
you makes who you are.

ATTITUDE

When you are passionate about what you do, you will develop a positive mental attitude.
Attitude counts for everything in your life. Whether you are working alone or as a team,
your attitude is what defines your character and personality. Ask yourself this rather
difficult question: how do the people closest to you view you as? Take a piece of paper
and write down the ten good qualities you think that you possess and on the back of this
paper write down the ten bad qualities that you possess. You might find both equally
hard to do. It is challenging to gauge our own mistakes and shortcoming, although we
are good and gauging others. When you start to self-evaluate you work on your attitude.
Remember it is never late to start working on your attitude.

COMMITMENT

It is easy to say to yourself that I will change my perception and work on my attitude.
The truth is: You cannot change overnight. Period! You need commitment and a sense of
passion to really visualize yourself as a successful person. Commitment is like vitamins.
There is this misconception that taking vitamins will make you stronger and improves
your immunity. To a degree there is medical evidence to verify this information.
However, taking vitamins regularly does not mean you will not get the flu when there is a
flu bug going around. Rather, because you’ve been taking your vitamins regularly, you
might get the flu, but you will recover faster since your body has over the period of time
strengthened your immune system with your regular intake of vitamins. This is
analogous to your personal development. You need to stay committed to what you are
doing to improve your lot in life. This requires courage. You need to learn how to come
out from the comfort zone and put to action what you intend to achieve.

ENERGY

Science has proven that energy can neither be created nor destroyed. Energy changes
from one form to another. The change in the forms of energy can be constructive or
destructive. Within us we have our mental energy. The way we use this energy will give
us the responses that we seek. Some times we harbour toxic energy in our body. Toxic
energy are those that ‘hijacks’ our thinking and feeling. Examples of toxic energy are:
anger, lust, greed, hatred and envy. We short-circuit ourselves when we let the toxic
energy build up in us. Learn how to dispel your ‘toxic’ energy. You can do this by being
passionate in what you are doing so that you create a sense of bearing in your life. This
will ensure that you are not emotionally ‘hijacked’ when the going gets tough.

There is an adage: Healthy body, healthy mind. Both your body and mind works in sync.
This means, you have to ensure that you do justice to your physical body by making sure
that it is in good working order. Engage in moderate exercise and eat right. Listen to
uplifting music that energizes you whenever you can. Every time a negative thought
crosses your mind, try to eradicate it and replace it with something positive. Create a
paradigm in your mind that there is always a solution for whatever problem that you are
confronted with. When you align your thinking this way you will have the energy to take
on any challenges life throws at you.

In the Part 3 we will examine the other aspects of the PACESETTER.
